The world of youth baseball and softball needs change, if those that tirelessly work to support their local leagues, teams and youth want to see a renewed interest in the games we love.
American Sports Group will soon be releasing a report and action plan for those interested in helping America’s Pastimes experience a revival.
In short in comes down to a few simple things we all must do…
- The game has to change to a faster, more fun (for the kids) activity that can resonate at the same level as the youth of today. Let’s face it, the fundamental unchanged rules of the games are more of a slow cooked meal than a microwaved or air fried hot pocket….more like a full length movie than a TikTok. The game as it is played in most leagues today, just isn’t fun to the majority of today’s youth. The declining numbers across the nation are a testimony to it.
- The resources to play the game like fields, bats, helmets need to be more accessible to more youth. Bats that cost 300-400 dollars, 150 dollar gloves…they all have their place and are worth every penny…let’s face the fact that not everyone can afford a bat made of NASA developed materials, and the game should not be about what a youth can or can’t afford.
- Develop resources to help support local league volunteers to reach their community, schools, and local business to recruit them in promoting the games. Many leagues may have tons of passion and time, but do not know what to do first. Others know what to do and do not have the time to take first step. Both types of leagues need help and resources.
ASG is not looking to replace the games as the are played today completely. We are only looking to promote the core concepts of the games, increase participation, and bring the FUN back into recreational youth baseball and softball.
